Former tanod gunned down

A FORMER chief tanod was shot dead while talking to a friend in barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City.

Hermogenes Borres suffered gunshot wounds in the chest and body. He died while being treated at the Cebu City Medical Center.

Police are still investigating possible motives in the killing.

Police said Borres was arrested in 2010 by members of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for allegedly selling illegal drugs.

Homicide investigator Alex Dacua said that at the time of the arrest, Borres denied that he was involved in selling drugs and claimed that he was just framed up.

Police said Borres and a friend were talking by the road when a motorcycle with three men on board arrived past 7 p.m. last Friday.

One of the men approached Borres and opened fire. The perpetrators then fled./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
