MANILA, Philippines—A woman was killed while three of her neighbors, including a teenager and a sexagenarian, were wounded when two motorcycle-riding men went in a shooting rampage late Friday night in Manila.
Manila Police District homicide section investigators said that the shooters had no specific target and simply chanced upon the group of neighbors clustered for a cozy chat at the corner of Coral and Franco Street in Tondo.
Angelita Santos, a housemaid, of 621 Coral Street in Tondo, was declared dead on arrival at the Mary Johnston Hospital from a bullet wound in the body.
Her 15-year-old neighbor, Alexander Martin, was brought to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound in the right foot while 65-year-old Rodolfo Garcia was taken to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Hospital and was undergoing surgery for removal of a slug in the right buttock.
Blas Antonio, 43, of Panday Pira Street in Tondo, was also brought to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Hospital with a bullet wound on the left foot.
A witness identified the shooter, who fled immediately after the incident, by his alias “JB Demonyo” but failed to identify his companion on the motorcycle. Both men are the objects of a police hunt.
Police Officer 2 Jose Gumilan, case investigator, said that before the incident, the neighbors were having a friendly get-together at the street corner when the motorcycle-riding men arrived.
Gumilan said that, for no apparent reason, JB Demonyo started firing a handgun repeatedly at the group.
