Filing of candidacies officially closed—Comelec

MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has officially closed the filing of certificates of candidacies (COCs) Friday and is set to begin preparing the full list of qualified candidates for the 2013 midterm elections.

A total of 84 candidates for senator have filed their COCs at the Comelec head office in Intramuros, Manila after the last day of filing on Friday where 35 candidates filed their COCs.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said in a statement that all the names of candidates who filed their COCs will be known not later than October 10.

According to Comelec Resolution 9518, cited by Jimenez, “reports on the COCs received by all Comelec offices shall be prepared immediately after the last day of the filing of COCs.”

“The Comelec Law Department shall prepare a Certified List of Candidates for Senatorial positions,” the resolution said.

The resolution further said: “For the National Capital Region, the Regional Election Director shall prepare the list of candidates of member of the House of Representatives while candidates for City and Municipal positions shall be prepared by the City/Municipal Election Officer concerned.”
