Police faces probe for man’s death in Pasay

MANILA, Philippines–A police officer is being investigated for allegedly killing a man in Pasay City before dawn Friday, a police official said.

National Capital Region Police Office director, Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina identified the erring cop as Police Officer 1 Manolito Alcala who was arrested along Barangay (village) Malibay, Pasay City.

Alcala allegedly shot Mark Anthony Francisco who sustained a gunshot wound to his face that resulted to his instantaneous death.

Espina has directed the Southern Police leadership to speed up the investigation on Alcala’s case to determine if he should be subjected to summary dismissal proceedings.

Alcala, who is assigned with NCRPO’s Regional Police Holding and Administrative Unit, has been stripped off his service firearm and police badge while pending investigation.

Radio reports quoted Alcala as saying that he only responded to a trouble in the area, but Francisco allegedly tried to fight him off.  Jamie Marie Elona
