10 PERSONS NABBED FOR ‘SWERTRES’
AT LEAST 10 persons were arrested in separate anti-illegal gambling operations by the Cebu City police.
Some of the arrested persons were involved in “swertres”, an illegal numbers game whose winning combination is based on the thrice-a-day draws of three-digit lottery games run by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
Illegal drug paraphernalia were also seized in the operations.
Senior Insp. Eunill Avergonzado, chief of the Carbon police, said the four arrested persons did not identify their financiers.
Video carrera and moli-moli machines were also seized in barangay Ermita.
Four persons involved in “swertres” were also arrested in barangay Mabolo, while seven persons were arrested in barangay Tejero for similar offense./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
TEEN BOY ASSAULTED
A 17-YEAR-OLD boy was injured after he was attacked by two teenage boys in south Poblacion, San Fernando town, southern Cebu.
Police said revenge could be the motive of the attack.
The attackers, aged 16 and 14, told police that the 17-year-old was a friend of members of the Crips gang who mauled them last Friday night.
Police said the two boys were members of Bloods, a rival group of Crips.
Around 9 p.m. last Wednesday, the 17-year-old boy and a friend were walking to a store to buy liquor when the 14-year-old boy threw a bottle at him.
The other boy was accused of shooting the victim in the body.
The 17-year-old boy was brought by his friend to a hospital.
The young offenders, who admitted throwing a bottle at the victim but denied shooting him, were turned over to social workers./ REPORTER RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
ROB SUSPECT COLLARED
A TEENAGER was arrested shortly after a jeepney robbery in barangay Bakilid, Mandaue City.
Larry Agot, 18, a native of Ozamis City who lives in barangay Opao, Mandaue, was accused of robbing Ramil Igcalinos at knife-point inside a Cebu City-bound jeepney on A. S. Fortuna Street at dawn last Saturday.
Police said Agot’s unidentified cohort took the victim’s wallet which contained P4,000.
Mobile patrol operatives who happened to be in the area noticed the commotion.
Responding policemen arrested Agot while the suspect’s companion slipped away.
Agot was detained at the Subangdaku police precinct.
