Red, Orange book finals slots in MCWD hooplah

THE Red Team crushed Black, 92-81, last Saturday to advance to the final round of the Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) Sportsfest-2012 Inter-color basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial gym.

On the other hand, Orange forged a titular duel with Red after dumping Blue, 63-48. The finals will be a best-of-three affair starting this Saturday.

Black led, 25-21 in the opening period with bull-strong center Erik Abatayo and Cris Ian Ralota leading the early assault. But Red responded with a blistering, 24-14 run in the second to erect a six-point lead, 45-39, at the half and pulled away in the 3rd period with a 27-20 rally for a 13-point lead, 72-59, entering the fourth quarter.

Sidney Mancao and Lucero Gako fired a game-high 21 and 19 points, respectively while Eping Mission and Gene Tabar combined for 28 points for Red. Cris Ian Ralota and Erik Abatayo paced Black with 19 and 15 points, respectively.

In the other game, Orange led Blue from start to finish to cruise to the 15-point victory.

Barry Caparas led Orange with 15 points while Dong Peroleno paced the losing Blue with 13 points.
