With just two weeks to go before his much anticipated ring battle against Filipino boxer Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista of the ALA Boxing Gym, Mexico’s Daniel Ruiz promised to prove to the Filipino boxing fans that he is more than meets the eye.
Fighting in the undercard of Pinoy Pride XVII: Philippines vs the World to be held on Oct. 20 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Ruiz vowed to beat Bautista to line himself up for a shot at a world title aside from annexing the WBO International Featherweight belt which is at stake in the fight.
Ruiz sports a fearsome record of 27 wins, five losses and one draw with 19 wins via knockout. He will be the fifth Mexican to try to defeat Bautista. Two of his compatriots, Heriberto “Cuate” Ruiz and Daniel Ponce de Leon already beat the Filipino in 2008 and 2007, respectively.
Ruiz’s excellent attributes inside the ring is now giving little jitters to the Bautista camp after hearing that the Mexican boxer loves to end the fight quick and easy. In fact, he won 17 of his 19 knockout wins before the fourth round.
Bautista however, was far from being intimidated by Ruiz’s impressive record in the ring as he is fueled by his motivation to lift his family from poverty and pursue his dream of becoming a world champion which was on his grasp in 2007 before he was knocked out by hard hitting Mexican Ponce De Leon in Sacramento, California for the WBO bantamweight title.
Spearheading the 17th installment of the boxing spectacle Pinoy Pride series will be the WBO world bantamweight championship fight between Filipino AJ “Bazooka” Banal against Thai Pungluang Sur Singyu.
The card will feature five foreign fighters who will try to shame their Filipino rivals.
