Jobless man leaves cryptic suicide note

“Exsanguination failed so let’s try defenestration.” With this cryptic handwritten message, the police ruled out foul play in the death of Roberto Aragon, 35, a jobless man who plunged from the fifth floor of a mall’s parking lot in Pasig City on Wednesday.

Senior Superintendent Mario Rariza, city police chief, said they found the note in the victim’s motorcycle, which was parked a few meters away from the spot where he fell. His body was found in the basement parking lot of Robinsons Metro East at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

“The victim’s relatives confirmed that it was his handwriting on the note,” Rariza said. Exsanguination refers to massive blood loss due to external or internal hemorrhage while defenestration means throwing a person or thing out of a window.

Rariza said that the victim had earlier attempted to kill himself by slashing his wrists. According to the police official, it seemed the victim had been depressed for quite some time because he could not find a job.—Kristine Felisse Mangunay
