Karaoke killing: Man who won’t give up mike slain

/ 01:42 AM October 03, 2012

A man stabbed dead his friend after the latter hogged the microphone at a karaoke bar in Las Piñas City and refused to let him sing. As a result, Angel Julio, 60, a resident of San Jose Street, is now facing charges for killing Edwin Miranda, 32, on Monday night at Padrinos Karaoke Bar and Restaurant on Padre Diego Street.

After having a few drinks and belting some songs, Miranda refused to give Julio the microphone when it was the latter’s turn to sing, even going as far as cursing his friend, according to a report from Southern Police District director Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona.

As waiters tried to break up the fight between the two, Julio walked out but later returned with a knife and stabbed his friend several times. Patrolling policemen and barangay tanods (village watchmen)) arrested him before he could flee. Miranda, on the other hand, was declared dead on arrival at Las Piñas District Hospital.—Jaymee T.
