Festive atmosphere in Comelec ‘unethical, morally wrong’–Brillantes
MANILA, Philippines—The festive atmosphere outside the Commission on Elections (Comelec) building in Intramuros, Manila in the first day of filling of certificates of candidacy Monday was perceived to be “unethical and morally wrong” by Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr.
In an interview with Erwin Aguilon of “Dyaryo sa Radyo” on Radyo Inquirer 990AM, Brillantes described the first day of filling as “peaceful, but noisy” noting that no untoward incident related to the filing of CoC was reported in the entire country, just that many people made noise.
“Maraming banda, tugtugan, kantahan; para ba tayong nagpunta sa pyesta, eh di naman pyesta yan. That’s a very formal and dignified process,” the Comelec official said.
He said the atmosphere created by candidates’ supporters didn’t violate anything in the legal aspect, but added that the process has been taken advantage of.
“Hindi magandang tignan. Sinasamantala ng mga kandidato yung okasyon,” Brillantes said.
