Mayor Sitoy runs again in Cordova

MAYOR Adelino Sitoy is seeking reelection in  Cordova town, Mactan Island, Cebu afterall.

The former law school dean  filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Cordova at around 8 a.m. yesterday.

His daughter Mary Therese Sitoy-Cho  is running for vice mayor.

“I filed my COC in the first hour. I filed early and I’m waiting for Wakee,” he told reporters, referring to boxing promoter Rex “Wakee” Salud who has publicly declared his intention to challenge Sitoy for the mayorship  but ran into trouble when his  qualification for Cordova residency was challenged.

Sitoy earlier announced he would give up his mayoralty bid in favor of his granddaughter  Leighna Katrina Sitoy-Abarquez. In a sudden change of plan,  Abarquez opted not to seek a government position in next year’s election.

When asked if he was threatenedd by Salud’s pending  mayoralty bid, Sitoy laughed and said “No, he (Salud) has no roots in Cordova.”

“Wakee Salud just doesn’t know that in Mactan, we killed the first invader (Ferdinand Magellan). People in Mactan do not want anyone from outside. We’re very nationalistic,” he said.
