One of Philippine boxing’s more recognizable names, Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista has been bearing training as he prepares for his anticipated ring return.
Considered as one of the more colorful names in local boxing, Boom Boom has racked up 24 straight wins and was one of the toasts of Philippine boxing for his gung-ho, up-front and powerful fighting style despite his youth then.
All that effort went crashing down when he tasted his first defeat against Mexican ring monster Daniel Ponce De Leon where the young Filipino went for broke in the first round getting tagged and finished early.
A lot has happened since as he immediately made a comeback four months after fighting Antonio “Barrio” Meza winning via UD and adding two more victories against Mexicans Genaro Camargo and Eden Marquez before losing again to Heriberto Ruiz by decision.
It was later found out that in that loss, Bautista had a severe injury on his left hand when he admitted it to his handlers. He was diagnosed with a rotten bone in his wrist. It was immediately operated on and after 11 months of rest and rehab, he was fighting again.
Bautista slowly fought and quietly won in succession knocking-out 6 of his 7 opponents, none of them going past the 7th round only blemished by the 7th round technical decision revenge win against former oppressor Heriberto Ruiz.
Now, back in training, Bautista is booked a slot in the Pinoy Pride XVII Philippines vs The World card headlined by AJ “Bazooka” Banal vs. Pungluang Sorsingyu of Thailand for the WBO World Bantamweight title scheduled Oct. 20, 2012 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
“Boom Boom is ready,” says the Filipino fighter and is gradually but confidently preparing for his next fights that he hopes would lead him to mega fight dates with current WBO Featherweight champion Orlando Salido or a delightfully desired rematch with Daniel Ponce De Leon.
Bautista will be facing former WBC Latino Super Featherweight king Daniel Ruiz who is also known to not back down from exchanges making this an exciting match-up where only one fighter will be left standing victorious possibly via KO.
Bautista vs, Ruiz is part of the Pinoy Pride XVII Philippines vs. The World mega-boxing presentation of ALA Promotions and ABS-BN Sports. The card will be headlined by the WBO World Bantamweight fight between WBO World No.1 and No. 2 fighters AJ “Bazooka” Banal of the Philippines vs. Pungluang Sorsingyu of Thailand.
