MANILA, Philippines—The low pressure area being monitored by the weather bureau is now a tropical depression.
As of 2 a.m. Tuesday, it was estimated at 550 kilometers west of Northern Luzon with maximum winds of 55kilometers per hour near the center, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
It is forecast to move almost stationary, Pagasa added.
At 4:20 a.m., Pagasa issued an orange rainfall warning over Metro Manila as heavy to intense rains was observed in Camanava, Quezon City, Manila, Pasig, San Juan, Mandaluyong and Marikina.
Pagasa said it would most likely to continue for the next 3 hours.
Meanwhile, some schools and local governments have announced the suspension of classes due to flooding. These are:
- Malabon City – preschool to high school, both public and private
- Marikina City – morning classes from preschool to high school
- Pasay City – preschool to high school, both public and private
- University of Santo Tomas – all levels including office work
- St. Paul University Quezon City – grade school (morning classes)
