Farmer stabbed dead

A 25-YEAR-OLD farmer was stabbed dead by a neighbor after they argued in a carnival while two other men were wounded in separate incidents in southern towns of Cebu over the weekend.

Police identified the fatality as Jury Gamboa, who was reportedly drunk when he and the suspect Jonathan Gamboa, 30, argued in barangay Caleriohan, Dalaguete town.

Police said Gamboa was drunk when he went to the carnival around 7 p.m. last Saturday. There, Gambo approached Flores.

For unknown reasons, the two men argued. Gamboa allegedly tried to punch Flores but the latter was able to avoid being hit.

Flores went home and returned moments later with a bolo which he used in attacking Gamboa.

Residents in the area brought Gamboa to the hospital but the man died along the way.

Flores surrendered to the police after the incident.

In Pinamungahan town, an unemployed man was stabbed and wounded by a former inmate in an argument in sitio Mabini, barangay Tajao, last Saturday.

Junrey Villaver is recuperating in the hospital. The suspect Dioning Labid fled after the attack.

Police said a drunk Villaver went to Labid’s house around 7 p.m. last Saturday. Labid was arguing with his wife Belen when Villaver arrived.

Police said while the couple were arguing, Belen asked Villaver about her lost cell phone.

Belen claimed that she was with Villaver and a certain “Montoy” when she lost her cell phone last Friday.

Police said Villaver got angry and slapped Belen with a slipper.

A few minutes later Villaver and Labid had a fistfight.

While the two men were fighting, Labid took a knife and stabbed Villaver in the back.

Labid was previously jailed for robbery charges. He was released last July, said PO2 Bendie Nuñez of the Pinamungahan police.

In Barili town, police arrested a barangay councilor accused of stabbing a 42-year-old man who ran amok in a disco in a fiesta celebration in barangay Dakit early dawn yesterday.

Jonathan Alesna, 37, a Dakit barangay councilor is detained in the detention cell of the Barili police precinct.

Angelito Barbon is recuperating in the hospital.

Police said Barbon was drunk when he went to a disco and caused trouble past 1 a.m. yesterday. Alesna arrived to pacify him.

Police said Barbon got angry and Alesna allegedly stabbed him with a knife.

Barbon sustained stab wounds in the neck, face and body. Police arrested Alesna in barangay Dakit past 3 a.m. yesterday.
