Atillo’s 3 goals lift USC past UC in Cesafi tertiary football semifinal

POMPOSO Atillo scored a hat-trick as the defending champions University of San Carlos (USC) will once again take a trip to the finals for the second year in-a-row in the tertiary football competition of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi).

Pomposo scored in the 25th, 69th and 90th minutes in USC’s semifinals match against 2010 champions University of Cebu (UC), which ended 4-3 in favor of the defending champions yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

USC’s one other goal was scored by John Roy Melgo with just six minutes into the match.

USC will have to wait to know who it will be facing in the final battle after the second semifinal match between University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) and University of the Visayas (UV) was cancelled due to rain.

The USJ-R-UV match has been rescheduled to Tuesday at 2 p.m. still at the same venue.

CHANGE IN VENUE

Tournament director Francis Ramirez said the last day of eliminations in the secondary division will be held in the morning of this Saturday at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) and not in the afternoon at the Aboitiz Sports Field as earlier announced.

Likewise, the final battle in the tertiary division will also be played still at the CCSC and not at the Aboitiz Sports Field.

Instead of 1 p.m., the battle for third place will begin at 4 p.m. while the championship was scheduled for 6 p.m.  /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
