Seno boosts triple title bid in Philta

CEBU’S Jan Godfrey Seno strengthened his bid for a triple title harvest in the Philta-Palawan Pawnshop Regional Age-Group Championships presented by Babolat by advancing to the finals in two divisions and booking a semis spot in one at the Cebu International Tennis Center in Consolacion, Cebu.

The University of San Carlos student advanced to the finals in the 18 and 16-and-under boys divisions where he will face the same opponent—Jessie Daniel Villarin. He also made the semis in the 14-under.

Seno’s recent success in the court included pocketing the 14-under titles of the Babolat Junior Tennis Circuit held in General Santos, the prestigious Olivarez-Philta Open Tennis Championships in Manila and last weekend’s 9th leg of this same tournament.

Seno advanced to the 18-under finals with a 4-0, 4-0 victory over Prince Clelo while Villarin benefited from the withdrawal of Adrian Parangan who suffered from cramps.

In the 16-under semis, Seno won when Parangan decided to default their semifinal match while Villarin beat Manuel Francis Navales, 4-1, 4-0.

Semifinal matches in the 14-under were halted due to the rain.

Should Seno win, he will face fellow Cebuano Gener Francis Lambayan who marched to the finals with a, 5-3, 4-1 demolition of Karl Baran.

Meanwhile, Cebuana Jana Pages also positioned herself for three titles in the meet. The Bright Academy student earned a finals ticket in the 18-under with a straight sets blanking of Mary Claire Lazaga. The 13-year-old also advanced to the semifinals in the 16 and 14-under categories.  /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
