5.2 quake hits off Batangas

MANILA, Philippines—A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck off Batangas at 10:12 p.m. Saturday and was felt on the neighboring island of Mindoro.

The quake was centered 14 kilometers northwest of Calatagan town at a depth of 123 kilometers, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injury.

The tremor was felt at Intensity II in the tourist town of Puerto Galera and Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro, and Abra de Ilog in Occidental Mindoro.

On Friday at 10:25 p.m.,  a 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck 21 kilometers west of Calatagan.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
