Gullas: Mayors will wait for my choice
REP. Eduardo Gullas yesterday said mayors of his Alayon party in the 1st district will support his choice of candidate for governor whether it is Rep. Pablo John Garcia of One Cebu or Hilario Davide III of the Liberal Party.
In yesterday’s press conference, Gullas still wouldn’t say who he would back for govenor.
“One thing is sure, the mayors are waiting for me. I’ve been silent…they will wait for me. Would Carcar and Naga have become cities were it not for Eddiegul?” he said.
Gullas, who founded Alayon, already declared support for Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, Davide’s runningmate.
Naga City Mayor Valdemar Chiong earlier declared support for Pablo John due to the projects given by his sister, outgoing Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.
But Chiong said he and the mayors will still wait for Gullas’s official pronouncement.

Gullas said he will make a decision in due time.
Mayor Chiong said he would rahter not comment on the possibility that Gullas would end up supporting Davide “as a sign of respect for him.”
Just last week Gullas expressed his gratitude to Liberal Party head Rep. Tomas Osmeña for realiginig P400 milion in road infrastructure funds from Cebu city to the 1st district in answer to Gullas appeal for help to finish massive road widening from Carcar to Sibonga.
On alliance talks between the LP and the Nacionalista Party (NP), Gullas admitted that it’s tougher reconciling the lineup of local bets of both parties than in the national level.
In Cebu’s 1st district, Gullas said there’s no problem since the LP hasn’t fielded any candidate there.
Gullas’ grandson, Samsam will run for the first congressional seat that he would vacate in the first district.
Gullas will run for Talisay City mayor next year. His voice will also be given weight by both the LP and NP camps in the district.
The LP-NP coalition and the LP-Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) agreement was supposed to be signed yesterday in Manila but was reset to Monday, said Gullas.
