The “Be Resorts Ultramarathon” the largest ultramarathon race in the country will hold its second edition today with 300 hardcore ultra runners ready to take on the grueling task of finishing the 50-kilometer race.
The race will kick off late tonight at the Be Resorts in Mactan Island and will traverse the northern side of Cebu covering the towns of Consolacion, Lilo-an and Compostela passing through the Marcelo Fernan and Cansaga bridges.
“All systems go for us. We are now having the biggest number of participants in a single ultra marathon. We are very happy with the turnout and at the same time we are challenged to accommodate and monitor all the runners,” said veteran race director Raffy Uytiepo.
From 280 original participants coming from Manila, Cebu, Davao, Ilo-Ilo, Leyte and Tacloban, a dozen more runners rushed to beat the deadline earlier this week.
“We have to accept them because we are also giving them the chance to experience this kind of running event. Anyway we are very ready from the medals to finishers shirts to the technical staff,” added Uytiepo.
Jonel Mendoza of Front Runner Magazine paired with Uytiepo and Be Resorts for this record-setting running event. Most of the runners are beginners prompting organizers to give them a generous cut-off time of nine hours.
Runners to watch are multi-titled Noel Tillor and the younger Jeter Bada who won several ultra marathons here in Cebu the past years.
