DOH says it’s better prepared for infectious diseases

The Department of Health has assured the public that it is better prepared today in responding to potential infectious disease threats such as the new coronavirus similar to one that causes Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

The DOH likewise advised the public to take precautions against chikungunya, a “dengue-like” disease carried by mosquitos that affects mainly adults.

Health Secretary Enrique Ona said the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine now has the capability for rapid detection methods, a fully-equipped laboratory and hospital facilities, and trained personnel in responding to these potential threats.
