Mexico catches Zetas drug capo ‘El Taliban’

/ 01:51 PM September 27, 2012

MEXICO CITY— Mexico’s military says marines have captured one of the most-wanted leaders of the hyper-violent Zetas drug cartel.

The navy says the suspect confessed that his name is Ivan Velazquez Caballero, who is known as “El Taliban.” There is a 30 million-peso ($2.3 million) reward for his capture.

The navy said Wednesday that he was captured in the north-central state of San Luis Potosi.

Officials say internal battles between Velazquez Caballero and top Zetas’ leader Miguel Angel Trevino Morales has been responsible for a recent rise in massacres and shootouts, particularly in northern Mexico.
