Radazas reunite with former ally

AFTER running against Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza in the 2010 election, Junard ‘Ahong’ Chan is returning to her side.

Mayor Paz said Chan spoke with her husband Lapu-Lapu City Rep. Arturo Radaza last Sunday to signify his intention to support the couple.

However, the mayor said Chan’s role in the 2013 elections still has to be taken up by his group.

Ahong used to be an ally of the Radazas but a year before the 2010 election, when he was still a city councilor he decided to run for mayor under the Nacionalista Party.

Opposition businessman Efrain Pelaez Jr., chairman of the Lapu-Lapu City Liberal Party, downplayed Chan’s return, saying “he never left the house of the Radazas.”

He said Chan may be projected as “a prodigal son returning to the house of the Radazas, but as I have said before, he never left them.”

He said Radazas actually supported Chan as a “fake opposition” to divide the votes.

“In the past, you had Pie Weigel and Norma Patalinjug and even former congressman Efren Herrera going against them. Other ‘oppositionists’ have done the same; all came back to Papa and Mama,” he added.

Mayor Radaza said she was more confident now that she has support of majority of Lapu-Lapu voters in the 2013 election.

Radaza said she will seek reelection next year still under the Lakas-Kampi Party./with reports from Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
