LAHUG FIRE
AT LEAST P700,000 worth of properties were destroyed when a fire hit a three-story boarding house in barangay Lahug, Cebu City early morning yesterday.
No one was hurt in the fire, said fire investigator Lowel Opolentisima.
Opolentisima said the fire originated at the basement of the house owned by Estrelia Tabanao.
The cause of fire, which was contained in 10 minutes, is still being investigated./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
MAMBALING THEFT
A SUSPECTED thief was caught hiding under a car shortly after he allegedly broke into a house in barangay Mambaling, Cebu City, past midnight yesterday.
Ernesto De Guzman, 32, sustained cuts in his hands after he smashed the jalousie blades of an apartment in his bid to elude arrest.
Police said de Guzman first burglarized Massive Auto Parts owned by Raymund Jones Mercader in Natalio Bacalso Avenue.
The man then burglarized an apartment but the occupants caught him.
Members of the Special Weapons and Tactics team and Mobile Patrol Group responded to the alarm.
Police said the man hid in the ceiling of the apartment then tried to escape by breaking the apartment’s window.
Traces of bloodstains led the pursuing policemen to the car where the man was hiding.
Pliers and P920 cash were recovered from De Guzman’s possession, said police./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
