STL employee shot dead, 1 injured in Batangas

BATANGAS CITY–A Small Town Lottery (STL) employee died while his co-worker was injured when two unidentified gunmen shot them at Barangay   (village) 10, Lipa City, Batangas Tuesday night, police said.

Supt. Christopher Birung, Lipa City police chief, said at around 9 p.m. Tuesday, Mel Mendoza and Liwenlindo Vergara were walking on their way home along H. Latorre St. when the gunmen on board a motorcycle shot them.

Mendoza suffered a bullet wound on the head and was dead on the spot while Vergara sustained two shot gunshot wounds on his right arm and was rushed to the San Antonio Medical Treatment in Lipa City for treatment.

The gunmen escaped on board their motorcycle towards Barangay Sabang in the city.

Birung added that Vergara was able to trade shots with the gunmen but could not say whether the suspects suffered bullet wounds.

Police have yet to establish the motive for killing.
