MEXICO CITY–A strong 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the west coast of central Mexico on Tuesday, US seismologists said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The epicenter of the quake was located 154 kilometers (96 miles) south of Ahome, in Sinaloa state, and occurred at a shallow depth of 10.1 kilometers, said the US Geological Service, which monitors earthquakes worldwide.
Mexico is one of the world’s most seismologically active regions.
Mexico City’s local government recently introduced an earthquake warning app for BlackBerry cell phones and plans to install public speakers to broadcast alarms.
