Fisherman charged for attacking policeman

Charges were filed in court against a fisherman accused of hitting the head of a policeman in a scuffle in barangay Bakhawan, Daanbantayan town, Cebu.

Eljane Linabog was also accused of grabbing the .45 pistol of PO1 Bryan Densing.

Charges of direct assault of persons in authority and attempted homicide were filed against Linabog with the Cebu Provincial Prosecutors’ Office yesterday.

Densing was manning a police outpost in Bakhawan when trouble broke out nearby at past 10 p.m. last Sunday.

The trouble involved Linabog and two other men identified as Albert Arabis and Barry Palompon.

Densing responded to the trouble alarm.

Police said Linabog and the two other men smelled of alcohol when the policeman tried to pacify them.

While Densing was trying to stop the fight, Linabog hit his head with a bottle of a rum.

Police said Palompon was heard telling the other men to get Densing’s firearm and kicked the policeman’s left foot.

Barangay tanods arrived but did not do anything to stop the scuffle due to fear.

Densing drew his .45 pistol but Linabog grabbed it and pointed it at the policeman.

During the scuffle, the firearm’s magazine fell.

The fight was stopped when PO3 Romar Andrino arrived and helped Densing arrest Linabog. Arabis and Palompon fled.

After the incident, Densing went to the Daanbantayan District Hospital and had his wounds treated.
