ARN Builders bag GAA Founder’s Cup hoops title

THE ARN Builders Cebu Vendors Credit Cooperative (CVCCO), 80-69, last Sunday to capture the championship of the Guadalupe Athletics Association (GAA), 13th Founder’s Cup-2012, 1st Conference basketball tournament at the Guadalupe Sports Complex.

Both camps fought on even terms in the first half which ended in a 41-all deadlock. But the Builders outscored CVCCO in the third, 25-13 behind skipper Rey Potot and Vincent Reyes for a commanding 12-point lead, 66-54, entering the final quarter.

CVCCO outgunned ARN in the fourth, 15-14 but failed to snatch the win.

Potot and Reyes led the Builders with 15 and 13 points, respectively while Erwin Ferrer and Tin Dinampo paced CVCCO with 13 and 11 markers.

In the battle for third, Rico Quilario fired a game-high 24 points to lift Gigi Caterers to a, 100-93 win over Palm World Travel & Tours.

Former commercial cager Alex Cainglet backed up Quilario with 14 points all in the pay-off period while Arnel Gabisay added 12.

Greg Bamba and Alvin Plaudin paced Palm World with 20 points each.

GAA president Raul “El Presidente” Aulga Sollano handed out the cash prizes, trophies and medals to the winning teams and individuals.

Rey Potot of ARN Builders grabbed the coveted MVP award and was joined in the Mythical Five by Erwin Ferrer, Vincent Reyes, Bags Minoza and Alex Cainglet. Yok Alesna won the Sportsmanship Award.
