Guatemala Street informal settlers OK relocation, financial assistance plan

/ 03:47 PM September 25, 2012

MANILA, Philippines—The final stages of the clearing operations in Guatemala Street in Barangay San Isidro, Makati will press ahead smoothly as families squatting in the city-owned property have either agreed to a relocation plan or accept financial assistance offered by the city government, Senior Superintendent Manuel Lukban, the new Makati police chief, said.

In an interview with John Susi of “Susi ng mga Balita” on Radyo Inquirer 990AM, Lukban said some residents stayed overnight to gather their personal belongings, while others demolished their own houses to collect the pieces of materials that they can still use.
