Typhoon ‘Lawin’ intensifies
MANILA, Philippines—Typhoon Lawin intensified further Tuesday as it moved north northwest.
Public storm warning signal number 1 remained in Isabela, Cagayan, Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
The typhoon was last seen 520 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora, packing maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 240 kph.
Lawin was forecast to be 395 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City by Wednesday morning; 160 km east of Aparri, Cagayan by Wednesday morning and 95 kilometers northwest of Calayan by Friday morning.
Heavy to intense rains were seen within 800 kilometers of Lawin.
