Signal No. 1 up in 4 areas–Pagasa
MANILA, Philippines – Public storm warning Signal No. 1 was raised by the state weather bureau in Isabela, Cagayan, Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands as Typhoon “Lawin” continued to gain strength and moved closer to Cagayan Valley Tuesday morning.
The typhoon was moving north-northwest at 11 kilometers per hour and was last seen 585 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora, packing maximum sustained winds of 195 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 230kph, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
Lawin was forecast to be 425 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City by Wednesday morning; 260 kilometers east of Calayan Island by Thursday morning and 15 kilometers north of Basco, Batanes by Friday morning.
Meanwhile, Isabela and Cagayan will have rains and gusty winds. Mimaropa, Bicol Region and Visayas will experience cloudy skies with occasional moderate to heavy rains, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
Occasional light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will be experienced in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mindanao and the rest of Luzon.
