Aquino supporters worry over coalitions

BACOLOD CITY—President Benigno Aquino III’s supporters in Negros have raised serious concern over efforts of the Liberal Party to build coalitions with other political groups for next year’s midterm elections.

“We appeal to the Aquino administration and concerned citizenry, to firmly sustain nationwide adherence to the ‘daang matuwid’ (righteous road) moral governance principles,” the Negrenses for Noynoy Movement (N4NM) said in a statement on Sunday.

“It is common knowledge that some politicians or candidates with graft-oriented values have used money and other illegal means to cheat and deceive the voters, which eventually resulted in the serious erosion of the foundations of our democratic electoral system on various elections over the past years,” it added.

The group asked how the proposed coalitions would deal with compromises to support common national and local candidates. It hoped that these compromises would not result in the weakening of the moral governance guidelines of the Aquino administration.

Nevertheless, the N4NM reiterated its “strong and sustained confidence and support” for the administration and its programs.

The statement was signed by Nap Dojillo, Dr. Bernaldo Eres, Tony Yap, Roque Hofilena, Carmela Namin, Nana Yulo, Joe Pahilanga, Roger Balderas, Cesar Ligahon, Delia Jayme, Tess Nazarea, Lina Hilado and Alex Ozoa. Carla P. Gomez, Inquirer Visayas
