Zaldy Ampatuan has ‘insignificant’ coronary artery disease, tests show

MANILA, Philippines – The results of the coronary angiogram performed on Zaldy Ampatuan early Friday morning showed “insignificant coronary artery disease and a low flow from the angiogram indicating small vessel disease of the vascular bed and possibly due to his diabetes mellitus that has been poorly controlled for several months now.”

The document containing the results, which was signed by Ampatuan’s attending physician, Dr. Danny Kuizon, was submitted by his lawyers to the Department of Justice as basis for a motion asking a Quezon City court to extend his stay in the hospital. The court had given Ampatuan permission to stay at the Philippine Heart Center until not later than noon Friday.

Kuizon said that as a matter of protocol after an angiogram, Ampatuan will be required to stay in bed for six hours with a sand bag on his right groin to prevent bleeding from the puncture site.

The doctor said that puncture wound for the angiogram was not sutured after the procedure and a sand bag was placed on top of the puncture to prevent bleeding.

The sand bag, he said, was applied at 8:10 a.m. and would be removed at 2:10 p.m.
