Traffic re-routing scheme for Monday in QC’s Commonwealth area

MANILA, Philippines – The National Capital Region Police Office has released its traffic re-routing scheme for Monday’s (July 25) State of the Nation Address of President Benigno Aquino III.

NCRPO Regional Director Alan Purisima said that the southbound stretch of Commonwealth Avenue will be open to traffic the whole day. The four lanes of Commonwealth Avenue southbound will be occupied by northbound vehicles from Shopwise U-turn slot until the San Simon U-turn slot wherein normal traffic flow for all types of vehicles will be again open for the northbound area after the event.

“Concrete barriers at Convergy’s U-turn slot will be removed on Monday, at 12:01 a.m. which will serve as an entry point for VIPs going to Sandiganbayan Building,” Purisima said.

Commonwealth Northbound

All northbound PUBs, PUJs and other motorists shall turn left at Shopwise U-turn Slot and take southbound counterflow until they reach San Simon U-turn Slot. Turn left and take the northbound for normal counterflow.

Alternate Route #1: From EDSA take Congressional Ave. then turn left to Mindanao Avenue. Take right to Old Sauyo Road then left turn to Chestnut. Take right turn to Dahlia then take left turn at Regalado. From Regalado take a left turn going to Commonwealth Avenue.

Alternate Route #2: From Quezon City Circle via North Avenue turn right to Mindanao Avenue. Take right to Old Sauyo Road then left turn to Chestnut. Take right turn to Dahlia then take left turn at Regalado. From Regalado take a left turn going to Commonwealth Avenue.

Alternate Route #3: From Quezon Memorial Circle via Visayas Avenue turn left at Tandang Sora Avenue then turn right going to Mindanao Avenue. Take right to Old Sauyo Road then left turn to Chestnut. Take right turn to Dahlia then take left turn at Regalado. From Regalado take a left turn going to Commonwealth Avenue.

Commonwealth Southbound

All eight lanes of southbound are passable for all types of vehicles. From San Simon U-turn slot, eight lanes of southbound will be divided in to two parts to give way for northbound vehicles until it reaches Metro Disco U-turn Slot where normal traffic flow will resume.

Alternate Route: From Commonwealth Avenue take right at Regalado then turn right at Dahlia. Turn left at Chestnut then turn right to Old Sauyo Road and turn left going to Mindanao Avenue.

Meanwhile, Quezon City Police District Director Police Chief Superintendent George Regis said that 10 Metropolitan Manila Development Authority tow trucks and two tow trucks from the Department of Public Order and Safety will be deployed in the Sandiganbayan area to ensure that no vehicles will cause heavy traffic flow. Traffic aides will be deployed and appropriate signages will be installed to guide the motoring public of the alternate routes.

Regis also said that pro- Aquino rallyists are designated to hold their activities along Commonwealth Avenue in front of the Commission on Audit (COA) building, while anti- Aquino rallyists were allowed at the Quezon Memorial Circle as per an approved rally permit.

Philippine National Police Chief Director General Raul Bacalzo also ordered all Police Regional Offices, Special Action Force, Intelligence Group, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Maritime Group, Legal Service, Headquarters Support Service, Health Service, Crime Laboratory Group, Aviation Security Group and National Operations Center to place at full alert status, while the PNP National Headquarters and the rest at National Support Units will be on heightened alert status.
