MANILA, Philippine – Typhoon Lawin claimed its first fatality Monday as it roared toward north, authorities said.
A five-year-old boy died after he was hit by a fallen tree in Labuan village in Zamboanga City past 2 a.m., said Office of Civil Defense-Zamboanga Peninsula Director Adriano Fuego.
The boy was asleep in their house when the tree hit the house.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said that Lawin was spotted 405 km East of Virac, Catanduanes Monday with maximum sustained winds of 185 kph near the center and gustiness of up 220 kph.
It is moving north northwest at 7 kilometers per hour.
On Tuesday morning, Lawin is expected to be 640 km East of Infanta, Quezon and by
Wednesday morning, 530 km east of Tuguegarao City.
On Thursday morning, the typhoon is forecast to be 430 km east of Calayan Island.
