REPRESENTATIVES of about 140 industries in the Visayas and Mindanao are tasked to help implement the Philippine Industrial Energy Efficiency Project.
Richard Saing, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (Unido) Philippines national coordinator, said the representatives called the energy managers would run the energy management activities of an organization on a daily basis.
These energy managers underwent the two-day Industrial Training on Energy Management System (ISO 50001) held last last week in Cebu City.
They were trained to plan-do-check-act, which includes the development of a policy, planning, implementation and operation, checking and management review of the energy systems of the company.
“The Philippines had the most expensive electricity rate per kilowatt hour in Southeast Asia and this project is the most promising means to reduce energy cost,” said Saing.
A Department of Energy (DOE) survey in 2010 showed that transportation was the major user of energy while industries placed second, said Energy Undersecretary Loreta Ayson.
“With this project, industries would be able to use lesser energy but would still achieve the same productivity,” Ayson said. /Contributor Joy Quito
