THE THREE-TIME defending champions Southwestern University Lady Cobras secured their place in the semifinals after they downed rivals University of San Jose-Recoletos Lady Jaguars in straight sets in the 12th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. women’s volleyball competition yesterday at the University of San Carlos gym.
SWU beat USJ-R, 25-20, 25-19, 25-16, to earn 12 points, good for the top spot in the standings.
USC is in second place while USJ-R fell to third place.
The last ticket to the semis will still be disputed by the University of Southern Philippines Foundation and the University of Cebu this weekend.
In the men’s side, USPF maintained its hold of the top spot after beating CIT-U, 25-19, 25-23, 27-25.
The win gave USPF 18 points to stay one point ahead of the reigning champion USC, which beat SWU yesterday, 25-20, 25-21, 25-21.
In the girl’s competition, USJ-R trounced the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, 25-9, 25-7, to lead the way with 10 points.
