Lapu-Lapu drowning
THE family of the 6-year-old boy who drowned in a man-made pond inside a housing project in Lapu-Lapu City is no longer interested in filing charges against the subdivision’s developer.
Rebecca Oyao said she only asked Filinvest to help pay for the boy’s burial expenses.
Jayboy drowned in the man-made pond in Sunrise Village in barangay Agus while swimming with friends past noon last Thursday.
A 4-year-old playmate said he, Jayboy and other children swam to the deep portion of the pond. The boy said they panicked when it got deep, and swam back to the shallow end. Jayboy was left behind.
The 4-year-old boy who had difficulty breathing was rescued by a construction worker.
Rebecca was washing clothes when she was informed of the incident. She and a cousin rushed to the pond and found Jayboy submerged in 4-feet-deep water.
The boy was rushed to the Mactan Doctors’ Hospital where he was declared dead.
There was no fence around the housing project, said PO3 Winston Ybañez.
Police said a security guard had warned the children not to play in the pond to avoid accident but the warning was ignored./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
