FOR THE FIRST time in the league’s history, the games in the finals in the juniors and seniors divisions in the 12th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) will be played on separate playdates.
This was divulged by league commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy, who was concerned about the safety of the crowd and supporters of the participating teams who are expected to come in droves and pack the Cebu Coliseum for the championship games.
“We’re doing it this way so as to make sure that the fans are safe, especially since the teams in both the high school and college divisions have big supporters,” said Tiukinhoy.
The format was actually utilized last year but only for the fifth and deciding games of the series between the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and the University of the Visayas (UV) in the juniors class, and Southwestern University (SWU) and the University of Cebu in the collegiate level.
Game 1 of the rematch in the juniors division between the same protagonists last year will commence tomorrow at 5:30 pm.
Meanwhile, Game 1 of the best-of-five series in the seniors class between the UV Green Lancers and the SWU Cobras starts on Tuesday, also at 5:30 pm.
Games will then be played alternately with the series taking a break this weekend before continuing on Monday, Oct. 3. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
