WASHINGTON — A plane carrying the wife of Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney made an emergency landing Friday in Colorado after the cabin filled with smoke, but no one was hurt, a spokesman said.

“The plane landed safely and everyone is OK,” the campaign spokesman told AFP, adding that Ann Romney spoke with her husband by telephone as soon as she landed.

Ann Romney had been flying to the west coast on a chartered jet, the campaign said. Her husband was campaigning in the western state of Nevada at the time.

Emergency crews met Mrs Romney’s plane on the tarmac in Denver, and Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul tweeted a photograph of firemen rushing up the steps of the jet.
