The Mandaue City government finally issued a demolition order against 18 piggeries in barangay Mantuyong.

City Legal Officer Giovanni Tianero said the demolition will start next week for violating City Ordinance 1986-023 or the Sanitary Code.

The ordinance says piggeries must be at least 50 meters away from residential areas.

The piggeries were found to be dumping their waste directly into the Mantuyong Creek.

Tianero urged the piggery owners to voluntarily transfer to the slaughter house in barangay Labogon.

Among those whose business will be displaced by the demolition is Mantuying barangay captain Antonio Maquilan, who owns a piggery in B. Ceniza Street.

He insisted that teir piggery has not disturbed anybody.

He said that transferring to the slaughter house in barangay Labogon would be bad for business because their livestock are not there.
