Soldiers mark Day of Peace

/ 06:46 AM September 22, 2012

MILITARY personnel under Central Command (Centcom) converged yesterday to celebrate the International Day of Peace.

Also celebrated as World Peace Day, Centcom gathered at least 550 officers and their men and women to show its commitment in “Winning the Peace” in the Visayas.

A Mass was officiated by Fr. Bart Sagadal, chaplain of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Region 7, inside the St. Jude chapel in Camp Lapu-Lapu in Lahug, Cebu City. After his homily, soldiers were requested to recite the “Pledge of Peace.” A candle lighting ensued following the signing of the “Pledge for Peace” wall in front of the chapel.

Acting Centcom Commander, Maj. Gen. Jose Mabanta Jr. emphasized that with its campaign plan “Bayanihan,” the winning of peace is more than just a mission but a commitment of every soldier.
