Portion of QC closed to traffic for martial law commemoration

MANILA, Philippines—The Metro Manila Development Authority has closed to traffic a portion of Quezon City for the Martial Law Commemoration Friday.

In its Twitter advisory, MMDA said EDSA corner Quezon Avenue (eastbound) all the way to Agham Road will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m. for the commemoration program of the 40th anniversary of Martial Law at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani at 1 p.m. The event will be led by President Benigno Aquino III.

Motorists going to Quezon Memorial Circle are advised to take East Avenue and North Avenue for the meantime, until the culmination of the event at 2:30 p.m.

A release from the Office of the President said the event tagged as “A Tribute to Martial Law Heroes and Martyrs” will be graced by Aquino, along with Dr. Maria Serena, National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairperson.

Maris Diokno, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Jessie D. Dellosa and Bantayog ng Mga Bayani Foundation Executive Director Nievelena Rosete will also be there.

“We are commemorating this occasion so that the Filipino people will learn the lessons gained and always be vigilant in safeguarding our democracy,” it said.
