Students, faculty to perform in concert

“WE live for music, so we share music,” says Cebu Music Learning Center (CMLC) director Sandra Namocatcat.

On July 29, CMLC will hold a concert titled “A Musical Night, Live Music, Share Music” at the Rizal Memorial Library in Cebu City.

The concert features selected CMLC students, faculty and Cebuano artists.

The aim of this event is to promote music and to share music with the less privileged individuals.

The center will soon offer a four-year music scholarships to grade 6 and first year high school students in public schools. The scholarships cover courses in voice, piano, violin and guitar.

“By giving out these scholarships, we are opening opportunities to these children,” said Namocatcat.

She said these scholarships will make the beneficiaries self-sufficient when they graduate from high school, acquire a degree in music education by being a member of a school marching band or orchestra and teach after completing the course.

Two of the main highlights for the concert will be Anthony Saligue and Daylinda Dagondon. Both will perform classical music pieces on violin and voice, respectively.

Saligue is a violin teacher who had pursued studies in Singapore and the United States. He has been a teacher for many years, and will study Violin Pedagogy in Austria as he was accepted at the Anton Bruck University.

Dagondon is a product of Colegio de la Immaculada Conception’s (CIC) musical productions and had also studied abroad, focusing on opera and art songs. She is a vocal coach at CIC.

CMLC also wants to bridge the gap between classical and contemporary music through this concert. “We are living for music and we have to share it so people would appreciate it,” CMLC owner Dennis Namocatcat said.

Donations in cash and in kind will all go to the project undertaken by CMLC. They are also open for donations of old musical instruments. A buffet dinner will also be served with a fixed price of P500. Proceeds will go to the same project.
