Four centenarians in Mandaue City will be given recognition and P50,000 each.
The Mandaue City Council approved yesterday authorized the release of P50,000 and a plaque of recognition to city residents who have reached 100 years old.
A resolution authorized Mayor Jonas Cortes to grant the sum of P200,000 to the qualified elderly every October. The award will be given during the culminating activity of Senior Citizen month.
Awardees will be Emilia S. Cabrera of barangay Guizo, Mandaue city; Olympia Judilla of barangay Paknaan; Leoncio Lumapas of barangay Ibabao-Estancia and Lourdes Lasap of barangay Banilad.

GOV’T TO GIVE AWAY 3.6 MILLION LIGHT BULBS
The Department of Energy (DOE) said it will distribute 3.6 million compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) for free across the country on September 22.
The DOE’s climate change mitigation project is funded by a $31-million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Energy Undersecretary Loreta Ayson said the use of 3.6 million CFLs will have a total savings of 82.2M kilowatt hours per year or about P828 million a year.
DOE’s target is to distribute 13 million of these energy efficient light bulbs.
The program would also reduce 44,702 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
The CFLs to be distributed is 14 watts, which is as bright as a 75 watt incandescent light bulb.
“We are promoting energy efficiency in the households. The distribution of CFLs is a way to conserve energy consumption. These are available in the market but are more expensive than incandescent bulbs commonly used in households” said Ayson.
