Article continues after this advertisementThe Department of Energy (DOE) said it will distribute 3.6 million compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) for free across the country on September 22.
The DOE’s climate change mitigation project is funded by a $31-million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Energy Undersecretary Loreta Ayson said the use of 3.6 million CFLs will have a total savings of 82.2M kilowatt hours per year or about P828 million a year.
DOE’s target is to distribute 13 million of these energy efficient light bulbs.
The program would also reduce 44,702 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
The CFLs to be distributed is 14 watts, which is as bright as a 75 watt incandescent light bulb.
“We are promoting energy efficiency in the households. The distribution of CFLs is a way to conserve energy consumption. These are available in the market but are more expensive than incandescent bulbs commonly used in households” said Ayson.
“One or two lamps will be given to every household depending,” Ayson added./Correspondent Joy Cherry Quito
