/ 01:32 AM September 20, 2012

Two people were killed in a fire that razed over 100 shanties and displaced around 800 families in a depressed area on Mauban Street, Barangay Manresa, Quezon City, Wednesday.

Fire investigator SFO2 Jose Felipe Arreza said the burnt bodies of Alexander Espina, 4, and Madeline Soliman, 20, were found in the three-story house where the fire started.

The boy was the grandson of the homeowner while Soliman was renting a room on the second floor. The fire began at 1:50 a.m. at the second floor and was put out at 5:23 a.m. Witnesses said the boy was inadvertently left behind by his grandmother while Soliman failed to wake up. Damage to property was estimated at P2 million. Julie M. Aurelio
