A retired jail officer was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in his house in barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City.
Simplicio Niñeza was found in his room past noon yesterday with four gunshot wounds in the chest, one in the left shoulder and one in the right side of the face.
At least six empty shells of a .45 pistol were recovered in the room.
Police invited the victim’s 37-year-old son Glenn for questioning after someone saw him hurriedly leaving the house shortly before his father’s body was found.
Senior Insp. Jul Mohammad Jamiri, chief of the homicide section of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said Glenn also acted unusual when he showed up composed and relaxed in the crime scene.
Glenn’s girlfriend, Roci Darroga, told police that she can testify that Glenn was sleeping in her house in barangay Cabanta when Niñeza was killed.
Glenn told police that he was willing to cooperate in the police investigation. He agreed to undergo a paraffin test to determine if he had recently fired a gun.
Retired police inspector Francisco Bracamonte, the victim’s neighbor, said he did not notice any commotion before the body was found.
He said hearing bursts of gunfire is normal in the area since the place is near the firing range of CCPO.
Some neighbors told the police that Glenn and his father had several fights over money. /CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
