Police arrested last Sunday a former chief of the tanods in barangay Poblacion, Badian town for possessing several unlicensed guns including a high-powered hand gun.
Police caught and handcuffed Jose Canseco after they raided his house and found the illegal weapons.
The team led by Chief Insp. George Ylanan of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) confiscated a K9 automatic machine pistol, .38 caliber revolver, gun magazines and ammunition, and drug sniffing paraphernalia.
Police said they were checking reports that Canseco was a bodyguard of a politician.
Canseco refused to comment on the allegations except admitting that the license of the K9 pistol already expired.
Ylanan said they conducted the operation against Canseco after they received complaints from Canseco’s neighbors about his alleged brandishing of his guns outside his house.
He said they verified through Fesaggss (Firearms, Explosives Security Guards and Agencies Supervisory Section) if Canseco had a license for his guns.
Ylanan’s team together with the Badian police, who were armed with a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Leopoldo Canete in Barili town, raided Canseco’s house.
Canseco was detained at the stockade of the PRO-7 in Cebu City pending the filing of charges./Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
