MMDA opens new website to get complaints from public

MANILA, Philippines—The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has opened a new website, which will serve as a venue exclusively for the public to air grievances and ideas about matters that needed to be taken up by the agency.

As part of their effort to upgrade their services, MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said the website www.metrosolusyon.mmda.gov.ph would encourage the public to send their complaints and queries to the agency quickly online.

“On Tuesday, we will launch this website where the people can send us their grievances about traffic, waste management, floods, and erring agency personnel,” Tolentino said in MMDA’s weekly radio program.

Tolentino, however, made a request to the public not to use the website to malign the MMDA and its personnel because mudslinging would defeat the website’s main purpose of sharing information and concerns.

He also appealed to the public to give the agency accurate and complete reports so they could “act upon them with more concrete solutions swiftly.”

“As responsible and concerned citizens, people should stop hiding behind text messages and reports sent anonymously to authorities to express their gripes against illegal activities in the metropolis,” he said in the website.

The website will also complement existing means the MMDA has been using to develop active exchanges of information between the agency and the public.

In 2010, the MMDA launched its Twitter account with the handle @mmda, which sends minute-by-minute traffic updates.

The MMDA also operates the “MetroBase,” its 24-hour traffic and communications center at its main office in Makati City.
