5 PERSONS HURT IN BRIDGE MISHAP

FIVE persons were wounded in a vehicular accident at the Marcelo Fernan Bridge in Lapu-Lapu City.

Police said the accident occurred when a Mitsubishi Strada driven by 27-year-old Noel Delila of barangay Pit-os, Cebu City hit an Isuzu van from behind in a downhill portion of the bridge.

The accident occurred past 3 a.m. yesterday.

After hitting the van, the Strada swerved to the right portion of the road, hit the bridge railing and overturned.

The impact threw the van to the center island and overturned in the opposite lane.

Delila and his passenger Kazer Roland Lobeti, 24, were wounded as well as the van driver Bryan Andrino, 27, of barangay Opao, Mandaue City and his two passengers.

Police said Delila was at fault since he hit the vehicle in front.

Delila, who tested negative for alcohol use, was detained pending the filing of charges against him, said police./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA

LAPU FIRE DESTROYS 3 HOUSES

THREE houses were destroyed by a fire believed to have been caused by an overheated laptop charger in barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City.

The fire started at the house of security guard Casiano Panoan Jr. past 1 p.m. yesterday.

Panoan said the fire may have been caused by an unattended laptop which was charged at the second floor of the house.

The fire also destroyed the house of Rachel Cuizon, 29, and Emiliana Del Castillo.
